Post-Flood Strategies for a Climate-Resilient Pakistan

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf described climate change as a serious and growing challenge for Pakistan, affecting the economy, public life, and national stability. He noted that despite contributing minimally to global carbon emissions, Pakistan remains highly vulnerable to floods, extreme weather, and environmental degradation, as seen in the floods of 2010 and 2022, which exposed weaknesses in infrastructure and institutional capacity.

He emphasized that true resilience requires long term planning, strong governance, and the integration of scientific knowledge with community engagement. Highlighting the role of youth and education, he stressed the need for investment in climate science and disaster management, concluding that without timely and decisive action, future generations will bear the consequences of today’s inaction.
